Become a Soccer Ball Ambassador

 Message from my friend Jason:

"When I visited Malawi for humanitarian purposes, I arrived with many soccer balls in a large military backpack. Believe me, this was no easy feat. Although I was there for work outside of donating soccer balls, I took it upon myself to bring these soccer balls to share with the children of this beautiful country. I had no idea how impactful this would be for each community. As I met different villages and tribes, it became clear that while each community had an abundance of love, they had very few possessions. Leaving one or two soccer balls for each community center brought incredible joy to the children.

I began to understand that the soccer balls represented more than a donation—they were a symbol of hope for the entire village. These children were kicking around homemade balls made from parts of trees, plastic, and string. Handing them a pump and a real soccer ball was one of the best feelings in the world.

Upon arriving home, I decided to send more soccer balls. However, I encountered a problem: shipping the balls proved quite challenging and expensive. Mailing a few soccer balls could cost upwards of $300 with DHS for a safe delivery. As with any good idea, sometimes you have to pivot. I had already been discussing building a website for one of my favorite people I met in Malawi (spoiler alert, Justin). I decided to add a section to the website, hoping that tourists and people traveling to Malawi for humanitarian purposes might bring a few supplies (including soccer balls and pumps) to give to Justin for distribution to boys and girls clubs around Blantyre and Zomba.

If you plan to travel to this region, Justin lives just minutes from the airport. I trust him to distribute these soccer balls and pumps. I created this website in May 2019, and I am excited to share that many soccer balls have been distributed since. We are working on expanding the program.
